This book was…amazing. Exactly what I was in the mood for and exactly what I was looking for. I seriously love Sabrina Paige’s stepbrother romances. Her books never revolve around the fact that the main characters are connected by marriage. Yes, it’s there, it’s a part of the story, but there’s always other things going on that the characters have to deal with. And that’s what makes her stand out amongst all the mediocre stepbrother romance books I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot). I’m also a sucker for rock star/musician romances and I’m a sucker for military romances. So this book, combining both of those and the stepbrother theme, was the trifecta of the perfect book.I’m not always a fan of the past to present format in books, but it totally worked here. Chapters would start off with a point in the past and then transition into the modern day story. I loved Addy and Hendrix. I loved their interactions, their chemistry, their personalities…they just made this book perfect.
Addy is country music’s IT GIRL. She’s the girl next door, America’s sweet heart…think Taylor Swift’s public image. But after Addy got caught up in some compromising photos (taken out of context), her overly controlling momager and step-father security specialist team up with Addy’s record label to try and control her and the nonexistent “situation”. That’s where Hendrix comes in. Fresh out of the Marines, he’s bored silly at a desk job. So his father decides he’d make the best bodyguard for Addy. Little do they know that there’s a past attraction between Addy and Hendrix and once they come together…chemistry up the wazoo!
I loved the time they spent together. There was a really sweet scene when Addy babysits for her nephew and the three of them spend the day together.
I think the scenes from the past helped establish the connection for the current day. Part of what I loved was that neither Addy or Hendrix were able to really let the other one go during their separation. One of my favorite “Awwwwwwwe” scenes was when they admitted to constantly thinking about the other.
I feel like my review doesn’t do this awesome book justice. Sabrina Paige is definitely one of my all time favorite authors and I can’t wait for her next book!

Cannon edition by Sabrina Paige Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
⭐️⭐️4.5 Stars⭐️⭐️
"That's why light exists – to illuminate the dark places."
♦️Book A STEPBROTHER ROMANCE series, book #3 but absolutely a STANDALONE read -- not related to any other book.
♦️Writing GOOD! Dual POV. Alternating between the past 7 years and the present.
♦️Editing TOLERABLE - A couple incorrect words used, missing punctuation, and several clothing inconsistencies (at a family dinner, Addy arrives "underdressed" in leggings but goes outside and has on jeans and $2,000 stilettos ankle boots. Later, on the beach, a skirt becomes pants then a skirt again).
♦️Hero Hendrix "Cannon" Cole, 23--Damaged, tattooed, sexy ex-Marine. Protective, arrogant, bossy. Accidentally fell in love with Addy 6 years ago, then joined the Marines to try and escape his feelings for her...it didn't work.
"There's not a day that's gone by since I was sixteen years old that I didn't think about you, that I didn't want you more than I could breathe."
♦️Heroine Addison "Addy" Stone, 22--America's country music sweetheart. Good girl. Fell in love with her stepbrother, Hendrix at 15 but was deeply hurt by him when he leaves.
♦️Steam HOT, 4/5
"People call you Cannon because it's your middle name, not because of your d*** size." "Have you ever seen my c**k?" I ask. "No," she says. Not yet, I think. "Exactly. When you do, you'll understand." Addy laughs, the sound light. "You're full of yourself." "You're about to be full of me too, sweet cheeks."
♦️Review Hendrix and Addy meet as teens (16 & 15) when their parents marry. They have an immediate attraction but fight it, having a love/hate relationship. Neither knows that they are in love with the other but become good friends. After living together for two years as step-siblings, Hendrix joins the marines to escape his feelings for Addy. Five years later and now guilt-ridden over the loss of his squad, he's back and Addy's new bodyguard.
I really loved these characters and Hendrix was one of my favorite heroes. He's a great combination of sweet and sexy and arrogant and tormented, and I really love how much he loves Addy. I wish Addy had stood up to her mother and stepfather a lot sooner and maybe not resisted Hendrix quite as long. But I did like that in the end she was willing to risk anything for her relationship with Hendrix.
This book has it all the great romance stuff...young love, second chances, friends to lovers, overpowering lust, hot sexy times, dirty talking, a forbidden relationship, sweet love letters, love songs, and the healing powers of love.
"You're so… light, Addy,"(...)"I don't want to contaminate you with my bulls**t."(...) "Sometimes I think darkness is the only thing I brought back from that place." (...)
"Maybe," she says quietly. "But I guess that's why light exists – to illuminate the dark places."
♦️Ending No cliffhanger. Epilogue (a great glimpse maybe a year or so into their future)
♦️Tags PTSD, H uses OW to forget h, unprotected sex, dirty talkin', man-whore, tattoos, military, cursing
